Wasteful Fashion Campaigns
Vestiaire Collective Reminded People to Shop Mindfully on Black Friday
Laura McQuarrie — December 1, 2023Waste in the fashion industry is an issue year-round and for one of the largest shopping events in the year, Vestiaire Collective took a stand to remind people to shop responsibly. For Black Friday, the platform visualized images of fashion waste to equate the 92 million tons of textiles discarded every year to the size of the Eiffel Tower or to fill the entire Empire State Building.
Vestiaire Collective recently announced that it banned a second wave of fast fashion brands from its second-hand luxury fashion platform, marking the second year in a three-year rollout to ban all fast fashion from its website. Since last year's announcement, the platform reports that "70% of members impacted by the ban come back to the platform to shop for better quality items and invest in second-hand."
