BAE Systems is supporting San Francisco’s efforts to create a more eco-friendly public transportation system by providing 42 electric drive systems for the city’s new hybrid-electric buses. These systems, which have been in use by the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) since 2007, are designed to reduce fuel consumption and harmful emissions. With a long-standing history of reliable service, BAE Systems continues to play a key role in helping the city move toward greener mobility solutions.

Building on this foundation, the latest 'Gen3' electric drive system offers "improved energy efficiency through a lightweight, compact design and the use of advanced materials such as silicon carbide." The system integrates a traction motor, onboard energy storage, and smart power electronics to support smoother operation and easier maintenance. These upgrades not only improve performance but also reduce the overall environmental impact of the fleet.
