Biofuel-Incorporating Metropolitan Buses

Following electric mail delivery vehicles and an initiative for electric London buses, England's capital will continue its quest to have a zero-emissions transit system by 2050 by turning to a coffee-based fuel. Caffeinated biofuel startup Bio-Bean partnered with Shell to help power London buses with coffee grounds.

The B20 biofuel is composed of 20% biodiesel and 80% petroleum diesel. Bio-Bean is also collaborating with some of the city's biggest coffee chains to collect coffee grounds to produce more of the alternative energy source. There is currently enough of the biofuel for a double-decker bus to run on for one year. So far some select buses have already begun using the eco-fuel. This waste-repurposing solution can be produced "on a scale large enough to help fuel around a third of the London bus network."
