Toronto Garbage Trucks Will Operate on Biogas in 2020

Toronto garbage trucks are taking a sustainable approach. It was announced that starting the month of March in 2020, the trucks will collect organic waste and bring it into the processing facility. Employees will use "anaerobic digesters to capture all of the biogas produced by the waste and transform it into renewable natural gas." This by-product, in turn, will be used to power Toronto garbage trucks, thus, facilitating a sustainable loop that is not only eco-conscious but also cost-effective.

This is yet another example of how cities are beginning to think about infrastructure and services from a planet-friendly standpoint. The repurposing of food scraps and organic waste as biogas for Toronto garbage trucks makes the urban center one of the first cities in North America to launch such an initative.
