Bechtel has announced the official launch of the Riyadh Metro Project, Saudi Arabia’s first underground railway system. Initially, the metro is expected to serve "1.2 million passengers daily, with the potential to accommodate up to 3.6 million passengers per day in the future."

In addition to the metro’s capacity, "the BACS consortium constructed the Red Line, which runs east to west, while the Blue Line, along with the Red Line, covers a total of 63.1 kilometers and includes 40 stations." Together, these lines will provide a comprehensive transport network for the city.

Sustainability is a key focus of the project, with some stations powered by renewable energy. This initiative supports Saudi Arabia’s broader environmental goals by reducing reliance on fossil fuels and lowering overall carbon emissions. Moreover, the Riyadh Metro is expected to play a significant role in reducing traffic congestion and improving air quality.
