The requirement for sustainable forms of energy is growing greater with each passing day, so the Shenzhen East Waste-to-Energy Plant is designed to help residents of Shenzhen reduce their impact on the environment. Designed by Schmidt Hammer Lassen, the power plant is scheduled to begin operation in 2020.

The circular plant is designed to have minimal impact on the surrounding environment and limit the amount of excavation required to have it be constructed. Once completed, the Shenzhen East Waste-to-Energy Plant will be capable of transforming a third of the waste produced in the city to energy through incineration.

The top portion of the plant will feature photovoltaic panels that will further contribute to the energy output capable by the plant.
