ATCO EnPower and Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) have completed hydrogen production and refueling stations in Alberta as part of 'CPKC's Hydrogen Locomotive Program.' This initiative involves "retrofitting diesel locomotives with hydrogen fuel cells, enabling them to operate without producing direct emissions, which is a significant step in reducing pollution."

In this project, ATCO EnPower provided the engineering, procurement, and construction services for the refueling stations; moving forward, ATCO will also operate these facilities for better efficiency. According to Kyle Mulligan, CPKC’s Assistant Vice President of Operations Technology, "These fueling stations play a crucial role in testing the hydrogen locomotives." Ultimately, this project supports CPKC’s broader efforts to develop a transportation system with reduced carbon emissions and a more sustainable future.
