LG Chem is Working with Acies Bio to Foster Sustainability
Colin Smith — February 15, 2025LG Chem and Acies Bio have announced a strategic collaboration to advance sustainable production of chemicals. This partnership leverages Acies Bio’s OneCarbonBio™ microbial platform, which utilizes biotechnology to create sustainable solutions using renewable or recycled one-carbon feedstock as raw materials. These feedstocks include captured CO₂ emissions, plastic waste, and biogas, which are upcycled into various chemical intermediates, including high-value specialty materials. The collaboration aims to develop commercially scalable technology for producing industrial chemicals, driving the transition to bio-based industrial cleantech solutions.
By combining Acies Bio’s expertise in microbial production strain engineering, synthetic biology, and biomanufacturing development with LG Chem's extensive capabilities in commercial process development, large-scale manufacturing, and global market access, the two companies aim to deliver a sustainable and efficient alternative for producing high-demand chemicals. This partnership underscores LG Chem’s commitment to driving innovation and sustainability in the chemical industry, while Acies Bio’s mission to enable sustainable production of chemicals and materials is reinforced.
