LOTTE Chemical Expands its Plastic Material Mobility Initatives

LOTTE Chemical, Hyundai Motor, and Kia have collaborated since 2022 to develop and supply eco-friendly materials for vehicle interiors and exteriors.

A key aspect of this partnership is using eco-friendly polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), processed through a depolymerization method. This technique chemically breaks down plastics and re-synthesizes them into high-quality recycled materials that match the properties of virgin plastics.

Further strengthening their sustainability efforts, LOTTE Chemical, Hyundai/Kia, and Seoyon E-Hwa are developing high-content, eco-friendly polycarbonate/polyethylene terephthalate (PC/PET). This material features a 70% recycling rate, a 65% reduction in carbon emissions, and improved mechanical properties and color versatility.

“We will continue to develop and provide diverse eco-friendly solutions applicable to future mobility by leveraging our expertise and technological capabilities in speciality materials,” said a representative from LOTTE Chemical.
