JLR, Dow, and Adient Repurpose Foam Sourced from Used Vehicles
Kanesa D — November 29, 2024Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is partnering with Dow MobilityScience and Adient to launch prototype car seats using Renuva repolyol. This unique polyuerathane foam-based material is sourced from used cars, allowing brands to prioritize circularity when it comes to designing automotive seating. Additionally, lab testing has showcased that this material can be used to reduce CO2 emissions equating to 44kg per seat.
“This collaboration highlights Dow’s MobilityScience initiative to drive sustainable mobility through advanced material science. By leveraging our expertise and collaborating with Adient and JLR, we are developing technologies that support our net-zero carbon emissions and our circular and renewable solutions goals," said Dow Mobility president Jon Penrice.
Through JLR's Circularity Lab, the brand is experimenting with cross-disciplinary teams to hone in on sustainability, engineering, procurement, and other projects that will allow them to reduce waste and transform their products using recyclable materials.
