Automaker Mercedes-Benz is launching a new urban recycling program that hopes to transform the company's materials into ones primarily sourced from recycled raw materials. This new project aligns with Mercedes-Benz's goal of achieving carbon-neutral status for its latest and upcoming passenger cars by 2039. To do so, the company will source its materials from urban mining and mineral waste to convert them into steel, aluminum, polymers, copper, and glass in pursuit of a 40% average for recycled materials across its portfolio.

“Together with our partners, we are working to increase the share of secondary raw materials in our vehicles and further improve process efficiency. We see great potential in urban mining as a cost-effective way to conserve valuable resources through the circular economy," said Markus Schäfer, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, Chief Technology Officer, Development & Procurement.
