Algreen is a London-based startup that "pioneers renewable and sustainable product solutions" and its bio-based polyurethane is a ground-breaking example. The material is made out of food waste and through the employment of various technologies in the biotechnology, chemistry, and material science spheres.

Algreen's bio-based polyurethane is versatile and can be commercialized in different settings such as fashion, medical, packaging, construction, and furniture. The startup's current product line includes "facemasks glue, fabric glue, apparel coating, shoe foam, vegan leather, chipboard, and label." Algreen's estimation that by using just 1% of its bio-based polyurethane, manufacturers can curb "nearly 200 billion pounds of CO2 emissions each year" is quite impressive. In the throes of accelerating climate change, Algreen provides an important pathway to bigger brands.
