Methane-Made Biodegradable Clothing

Startup Mango Materials is Developing Biodegradable Fibers
Alyson Wyers — October 24, 2017Mango Materials uses waste methane to create biodegradable fibers you can use for clothing. Based in California, the eco-conscious startup developed a bio-polyester "that allows you to have a closed loop process and help reduce the amount of waste generated by the textile industry." This includes the pollution of the oceans as well.
Many efforts have been made to address the effect fast fashion and microfibers have on the ocean and our environment. These biodegradable fibers would be broken down at a treatment plant and are also safe for marine life to digest.
Mango Materials aims to bring down the cost of producing the bio-polyester by incorporating waste methane, which could make the bacteria-produced plastic (called polyhydroxyalkanoates or PHAs) more viable commercially.
