Carbon-Negative Manufacturing Funds

Citroniq Chemicals' Nebraska Biomanufacturing Hub Secures $12M

Citroniq Chemicals LLC has successfully raised $12 million in a Series A funding round to establish the first carbon-negative biomanufacturing hub in Nebraska. This investment was led by a prominent multinational energy technology company, with additional support from Lummus Technology Ventures and the State of Nebraska.

The funding will facilitate the development of Citroniq’s initial plant, designed to capture and avoid 2 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually. The partnership with Lummus Technology aims to scale up bio-polypropylene production processes, contributing significantly to carbon reduction in the plastics sector.

Mel Badheka, Citroniq’s President and Co-Founder, expressed enthusiasm for having strategic investors join their mission to decarbonize the plastics industry. With this funding, Citroniq plans to complete its engineering phase and enhance Nebraska's bioeconomy by converting local ethanol into valuable bioplastics. The initiative underscores the growing recognition of sustainable materials in achieving long-term net-zero goals within the industry.
