Carbon-Negative Concrete Technology
LaFarge and CarbiCrete Partner for Carbon-Negative Concrete
Grace Mahas — October 30, 2024Lafarge Canada and climate tech company CarbiCrete recently joined forces to revolutionize the construction industry through carbon-negative concrete block technology. The new collaboration transforms steel industry byproducts, typically destined for landfills, into essential ingredients for sustainable construction materials at Lafarge's St. Constant - Montreal East manufacturing cluster. This process is extremely beneficial to the environmental, reducing 150 kg of CO2 for every ton of concrete produced.
This new carbon-negative concrete technology demonstrates how traditional construction materials can be reimagined through circular economy principles. By eliminating traditional cement from the concrete production process and incorporating captured carbon dioxide, the partnership is setting new standards for sustainable building materials. The technology's deployment at Patio Drummond showcases its practical application in real-world construction projects, proving that environmental responsibility and structural integrity can coexist in modern building materials.
