Cement-Reducing Building Methods

Rieder is Drawing Inspiration from Ancient Rome

Austrian cladding company Rieder is tapping inspiration from ancient Rome in a bid to champion more sustainable practices and building by lowering CO2 emissions. The firm is striving to "develop facade panels with reduced cement content" and in achieving this, Rieder will be one step closer to achieving its goal of being climate positive by 2030.

In order to fill the gap created by removing cement from concrete facades, Rieder is using a material derived from volcanic matter—natural and local pozzolana. This is precisely where the inspiration from ancient Rome kicks in as Romans were notoriously good at figuring out complex construction techniques. The cladding company is aiming to implement this sustainable material innovation across its existing products and in the future.
