Post-Consumer Marbled Tiles
The Eco Tile Category is Accented by Enis Akiev's Collection
Kalin Ned — November 20, 2019One of the ways in which designers respond to the consequences and dangerous implications of climate change is through planet-friendly products and alternatives — this article focuses on Enis Akiev and his eco tiles.
The Kazakhstan-based designer has pioneered a method that utilizes post-consumer plastic waste and repurposes it for making marble tiles. Enis Akiev collects the materials from trash-sorting facilities and then he creates piles of material, based on color and type of plastic. The designer uses "heat, movement, and pressure" to reach the striking aesthetic of the eco tiles. After washing and drying the pieces of post-consumer waste, he melts it in the oven and then manipulates it to reach the final form. The eco tile collection is dubbed 'Plastic Stone Tiles.'
