Over the last couple of years, contemporary architects and designers have been experimenting with upcycled waste materials to drive the future of their discipline forward and to do so in a more sustainable way. Many interesting innovations have come out of this and a great example comes from the interior design firm Monostudio Associati. Founders Elisa Evaso and Lucas Guglieri started their Monoferments Project in 2020 and the venture was dedicated to utilizing upcycled waste materials for various products.

Semplicemente Circolare, for example, is a capsule of floor and wall tiles. Monostudio Associati produces these out of excess ground marble, combined with other waste such as eggshells, coffee grounds, and light-toned marble granules. Monostudio Associati found that the colors, patterns, and textures are dependent on different combinations and ratios of the aforementioned materials.
