The 'Save a Sample!' Project Aims to Put Old Product Samples to New Use
Katherine Pendrill — April 21, 2016'Save a Sample!' is a new initiative that aims to use old product samples from design offices in new ways. A common problem that most architecture and design offices face is what to do with the unsolicited product samples left by client companies. Now these wasted samples are being given new life in the form of creative artwork.
Save a Sample! is a project that involves collecting odds and ends from architecture and design firms across cities such as New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. These design samples range from materials such as collaging pamphlets to colorful stone slabs. The pieces are then distributed to local design schools, thereby giving students a chance to turn the discarded samples into new artwork.
The initiative ultimately helps reduce waste generated by design firms by donating unwanted materials to students who can put them to better use.
