Handtmann has launched the ConProSachet system, introducing a pioneering solution in packaging technology by co-extruding edible alginate packets — also known as seaweed-based packaging — at industrial speeds. This innovation marks a significant shift from traditional plastic film packaging, utilizing seaweed-based materials that are fully ingestible or biodegrade within a few weeks.

Handtmann's ConProSachet system is designed with a specialized co-extrusion head to encase a variety of fillings — from jams and cheeses to energy gels and condiments — in a thin alginate casing. This casing is then divided into individual pods for easy portioning, each sealed with a minimal thickness to ensure product integrity.

The seaweed-based packaging system has the potential to create leak-proof, edible sachets ideal for snacks, quick energy boosts, and innovative food products. The innovation caters to environmentally conscious consumers and processors seeking sustainable packaging solutions.
