'SEAD' Biodegradable Seed Pods are Made with Chitin

The 'SEAD' biodegradable seed pods have been designed by Mara Zimmerman as a sustainable solution that reimagines agricultural practices by incorporating more waste materials. The seed pods are crafted out of chitlin sourced from discarded seafood shells that has been compressed into perforated sheets with individual sections for seeds that can be torn off as required. This acts as a way to protect the seed, while the chitlin also acts as a nutritional support for the seed once it starts to grow.

The 'SEAD' biodegradable seed pods can be used in four steps by simply breaking off a pod at the perforated line before gently crushing it, planting it and storing the remainders in a cool, dry place.
