A partnership between Coveris and Notpla has resulted in sustainable foodservice packaging to help tackle the ever-growing concern surrounding takeout food packaging.

The packaging is made with a coating from Notpla that is achieved with a mix of seaweed and plant extracts, which is rated as a food-safe barrier but also biodegradable. The use of water-based inks add in additional sustainability benefits to support ethical disposal. The packaging is being launched as an off-the-shelf own-brand option and as custom printed options, which is observed in Notpla's partnership with Just Eat Takeaway.

Coveris' Food-on-the-Move Category Director Emma Moate spoke on the packaging design from Coveris and Notpla saying, "Given the functional requirements of packaging combined with disposal challenges in this sector, the new coated packs really are the packaging of the future."
