Bacardí has announced that it will reduce greenhouse gas emissions starting from next year as part of a bid to keep in line with consumer and societal shifts regarding climate change. The brand has announced it will curb its emissions by 50% when a Combined Heat & Power (CHP) system is brought online at the brand's distillery located in Puerto Rico. The system will replace the existing heavy fuel oil with propane gas, which is touted as being more energy efficient and cleaner.

VP of Global Safety, Quality & Sustainability at Bacardi Rodolfo Nervi spoke on the brand's initiative to reduce greenhouse gas emissions saying, "We are committed to cutting our GHG emissions by reducing our energy consumption and switching to the most sustainable form of energy in the countries where we operate. While natural gas is the most responsible energy source in Puerto Rico right now, we are continuing to explore ways in which we can reduce our use of carbon-based fuels even further and take more positive steps towards our ultimate goal of net zero.”
