Absolut Vodka is Debuting a Hydrogen-Fired Glass Furnace
Michael Hemsworth — November 8, 2022Absolut Vodka has announced it is introducing a new hydrogen-fired glass furnace as part of the brand's large-scale production in a bid towards becoming CO2-neutral by the year 2030.
The new furnace will be supplied by Ardagh's Limmared glassworks and will see 20% of the natural gas use replaced with green hydrogen energy to craft Abolut's bottles. The new furnace comes as one of several commitments the brand is making as part of its CO2 neutrality initiative, which also includes recycled flint glass and more.
Chief Executive of Absolut Stéphanie Durroux commented on the hydrogen-fired glass furnace saying, "The glass manufacturing industry is in a transformative journey, and the world can’t wait for the perfect solution. A bold and innovative approach is needed to accelerate radical change that will help solve the significant sustainability challenges that all glassmakers and buyers of glass face.”
