100% Recycled Wine Bottles

Laithwaites Launches a New Wine Bottle Made from 100% Recycled Glass

Online wine retailer Laithwaites has officially launched the UK's first 100% recycled glass wine bottle -- a key development contributing to the company's pledge to cut its carbon footprint in half by 2030.

The decision to produce the new eco-friendly bottle came after the company recognized that transport and glass accounted for 68% of its carbon footprint. Not only is the bottle itself made from recycled material, but it has also been stripped of any foil or plastic packaging. As a result, the bottle has an interesting aesthetic appeal in which the cork is entirely visible through the bottle. In addition, the bottle's label is 100% biodegradable.

“Customers still want the bottle of wine they know and love, so while we will of course continue to look at alternative packaging, we wanted to find a traditional format that reduces our impact on the environment,” said Michael Johnson, innovation director at Laithwaites.
