Chestnut Carbon Enrolls 160,000 Acres into its 'Forest Carbon Works'
Debra John — March 28, 2025Chestnut Carbon has enrolled over 160,000 acres in its 'Forest Carbon Works' program, which focuses on improving forest management to increase carbon storage. This program, one of the largest in the U.S., helps private landowners earn money from carbon markets while protecting their forests; it currently includes members from 36 states.
The Forest Carbon Works program makes it easy for landowners to take part in carbon markets by offering support in carbon storage and forest management. Landowners receive annual payments from selling carbon credits and have access to forestry and carbon experts who help manage their forest projects. Chestnut handles the entire process, including data collection, reporting, and verification.
The carbon credits earned are sold on the Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM), and Chestnut shares the revenue with the landowners. As such, the program prioritizes long-lasting carbon removal, ensuring sustainable forest management with strong environmental benefits.
