Food Waste-Prevention Collabs
Eviosys and FareShare Join Forces to Fight Food Waste and Poverty
Georgia Wray Norsten — January 10, 2025Metal packaging leader Eviosys and FareShare food charity have partnered to expand the Food Life Extension (FLEX) project, a vital initiative to reduce food waste and tackle food insecurity in the UK. The collaboration will increase FLEX’s canned soup production by 23%, raising its annual output to 625,000 cans by the end of 2024. This effort is set to save approximately 29 tonnes of fresh food from going to waste.
Using surplus fresh ingredients, the FLEX project produces long-life canned soups, which FareShare distributes through its network of 8,500 charities. These include school breakfast programs, homeless shelters, and community cafés, ensuring the food reaches those in need. With 8 million UK adults experiencing food insecurity in 2024, the partnership addresses a growing crisis.
Eviosys’s support enables FareShare to deliver more food to vulnerable communities, highlighting the potential of sustainable packaging to combat waste and provide nutritious food for all.
