Albertsons Companies and Uber Partner on Food Rescue
Kalin Ned — June 17, 2024Albertsons Companies and Uber Technologies have launched a collaborative food rescue initiative aimed at addressing food insecurity and reducing food waste in several major U.S. cities. Announced as part of the 2024 White House Challenge to End Hunger and Build Healthy Communities, the program leverages the Uber Direct delivery service to facilitate the timely delivery of surplus food from Albertsons Cos. stores to local non-profit organizations and food banks.
Since its inception, the food rescue initiative has made significant strides in Washington, D.C., facilitating over 100 deliveries of donated food to local nonprofits. After this success, the collaboration has expanded to Boston, Chicago, and Denver. By partnering with Uber, Albertsons Companies has created a streamlined process for food donation, ensuring that surplus food reaches those who require it most efficiently.
