In an effort to reduce the use of single-use packaging, Uber Eats has started a pilot in Central London where customers may choose to buy their food in reusable containers. The project will test and evaluate the effectiveness of localized at-home pickups of reusable packaging.

Customers of Uber Eats will have the option to choose reusable packaging when placing an order. After they've eaten, simply scan a QR code, choose a day for collection, give the containers a rinse, and wait for pickup. The pilot will be undertaken by a reusable packaging supply chain startup Again for six months with a set of restaurant partners on the food delivery service.

“We know consumers care about the impact that their decisions have on the environment, and we are delighted to be part of this innovative trial which is another step in our mission to do our part in helping the food delivery ecosystem transition to a cleaner and greener future," said Matthew Price, Uber Eats' general manager, UK and Ireland.
