Solving global warming takes more than just trees

Hitachi Digital Services collaborates with OneThird, a food waste prevention specialist, to develop a groundbreaking digital food waste-reducing platform. The collaboration aims to reduce global food waste by at least 25% through the leveraging of Hitachi Digital Services' cloud development capabilities and OneThird's expertise.

The real-time data insights platform includes a portable scanner developed by OneThird, capable of scanning produce on a molecular level using near-infrared sensing technology and artificial intelligence algorithms. The technology predicts the shelf life of fresh produce, enabling more informed decisions within the supply chain, preventing waste, and saving costs.

OneThird's technology is already available for use across the food supply chain, and multiple European retailers are considering its installation in-store.
