Good Food Project Turns Excess Food into Meals for the Food Insecure
Kalin Ned — December 16, 2022References: fastcompany
Part of the Pittsburgh-based food recovery organization 412 Food Rescue, the Good Food Project efficiently flips donations into meals for the food insecure. The chefs at the food recovery kitchen design the menu each day "based on the mishmash of food it gets—be it sauerkraut, cantaloupe, or ketchup."
The Good Food Project is one of the more successful zero-waste endeavors to date. The organization reports about 0.023% of waste and this is surely an almost unheard-of figure since "zero-waste tends to mean closer to 10% waste." 412 Food Rescue redirects excess food from various sources to the Good Food Project. While the job is often unpredictable and requires some thinking outside of the box, the work is most certainly rewarding.
