A&W Combats Food Waste by Partnering with Second Harvest
Kalin Ned — December 5, 2024A&W Canada’s partnership with Second Harvest showcases a significant commitment to addressing both food insecurity and environmental concerns. By donating surplus food from its supply chain and restaurants to community organizations, A&W has provided over 1.24 million meals to those in need while actively reducing food waste. This initiative not only supports vulnerable populations but also mitigates greenhouse gas emissions, underscoring the environmental benefits of redistributing edible food rather than disposing of it.
Through the Second Harvest Food Rescue App, 441 A&W locations currently participate and work to connect with local groups such as food banks and shelters to repurpose surplus food into nourishing meals. It reflects A&W's values-driven approach to business, demonstrating care for both community well-being and environmental stewardship.
