Regional Eco Labels
Environmental Alliance of America, Latin America and The Caribbean Join Forces
Jana Pijak — January 21, 2025The Environmental Alliance of America recently launched Latin America and the Caribbean’s first regional eco-labeling program, marking a significant milestone in promoting sustainable trade and informed consumer choices across the region. Backed by regulatory, standardization, and accreditation bodies, this initiative aims to streamline eco-labeling standards for a more unified approach to sustainability.
Supported by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) with funding from Germany, the Alliance represents over 450 million consumers. It also follows a 2023 Ministerial Decision by the Forum of Ministers of Environment, reflecting the region's commitment to sustainable development.
This program empowers consumers and businesses to make more environmentally minded decisions by offering clear, reliable information on products’ overall impacts. Each eco-label requires products to meet a specific set of criteria, fostering responsible production and consumption while driving eco job creation and local economic growth.
