Pollution-Reducing Street Lamps
The Papilio Wind-Powered Street Lamp is Eco-Friendly
Josh Thompson-Persaud — May 21, 2021The Papilio wind-powered street lamp, developed by Berlin designer Tobias Trübenbacher, runs on renewable energy and reduces local light pollution. The eco-friendly street lamp can be set up freestanding or wall-mounted, allowing it to sit in convenient locations like the sides of buildings. Using its built-in wind turbine, rechargeable battery, and sensor technology, the Papilio can generate and conserve power in a carbon-neutral fashion, enabling surplus power to be diverted to the city's power grid.
The Papilio wind-powered street lamp has a sleek grey and green esthetic with an emphasis on matte colors to reduce light reflection. The lamp's head emanates a warm glow using LED technology that is insect-friendly. The assembly process for the lamp is simple, making the design accessible for local communities and municipal governments.
