UK Hardwoods' Thermal Technology is Eco-Friendly
Debra John — November 15, 2024UK Hardwoods, a timber company, has introduced the UK’s largest 'Thermo Vacuum System (TVS)' machine, marking a step forward in sustainable timber processing. The TVS machine "treats wood at high temperatures (170°C to 230°C), altering its chemical structure to enhance durability, hardness, and resistance to mould and pests." Originally developed for aerospace use, thermal vacuum technology has since advanced to become more energy-efficient and precise.
The process is "entirely chemical-free, extending the lifespan of timber to 60 years even in outdoor conditions." The treatment also darkens the wood, eliminating the need for oils or additional treatments, creating a durable, low-maintenance product.
Moreover, UK Hardwoods sources all timber locally and ensures full traceability, with products certified 'Grown in Britain.' Likewise, expanding beyond cladding, decking, flooring, and furniture, the company now offers timber solutions for harsher environments, aligning with its commitment to British forestry and sustainable practices.
