Shoe Recycling Schemes

A shoe recycling scheme launched by Reconomy Connect and ReNewShoe aims to tackle the growing issue of footwear waste by introducing dedicated drop-off points for unwanted shoes. This initiative will recycle collected shoes into valuable materials such as rubber, foam, and leather, which can be repurposed into new products like picnic tables, sports flooring, and even circular footwear. By leveraging Reconomy Connect’s waste collection infrastructure and ReNewShoe’s recycling technology, the program provides a sustainable alternative to landfill disposal.

With the footwear industry producing nearly 24 billion pairs of shoes annually, most of which end up incinerated or discarded, this partnership offers a scalable solution to reduce waste. The initiative builds on successful recycling methods previously used in creating the ASICS Neocurve sneaker from reclaimed materials. ReNewShoe’s expertise in footwear recycling aligns with Reconomy Connect’s commitment to promoting circular solutions in waste management.
