Pet Valu, a leading Canadian retailer of pet food and supplies, has introduced two Volvo VNR Electric trucks to its fleet as part of its commitment to sustainable transportation. These Class 8 electric trucks, operating from Pet Valu's LEED-Gold certified distribution center in Surrey, British Columbia, are designed to reduce emissions and enhance supply chain efficiency. Each truck features a six-battery pack with a range of up to 442 kilometers (275 miles) per charge and can be fully charged overnight using newly installed 120 kW chargers. The electric trucks will make deliveries to Pet Valu stores across British Columbia, covering approximately 300 kilometers (186 miles) per day.

The introduction of Volvo VNR Electric trucks aligns with Pet Valu's broader sustainability goals, aiming to avoid using over 25,000 liters of diesel fuel and reduce CO2 emissions by over 62 tonnes annually per truck. The near-silent operation of these trucks also improves driver comfort and minimizes noise pollution, making them ideal for early morning or late evening deliveries. By collaborating with Volvo Trucks and leveraging financial incentives from programs like CleanBC – Go Electric and iMHZEV, Pet Valu is taking significant steps towards a greener and more sustainable logistics operation.
