Markham has launched a pilot program to test the viability of e-scooters and e-bikes in the city's downtown area. The two-month initiative, in partnership with Scooty Mobility, aims to improve first and last mile connectivity by providing an alternative transportation option for residents and visitors. The program includes around 100 app-enabled e-scooters and e-bikes available for rent, with designated parking spots throughout Markham Centre. The initiative aligns with broader efforts to reduce vehicle congestion and carbon emissions, while enhancing accessibility to public transit and key destinations within the city.

The pilot program also seeks to gather data on usage patterns and infrastructure needs, which will inform future city planning and transit strategies. Scooty Mobility's app allows users to rent the vehicles for a fee, with the goal of seamlessly connecting people to public transportation and reducing reliance on personal vehicles. The program's success could lead to permanent implementation and expansion, contributing to Markham's sustainability goals and improving overall urban mobility.
