State-Partnered Free E-Bike Programs
Hillsboro and The Street Trust Launched a Ride2Own Program
Colin Smith — April 1, 2024The Ride2Own e-bike program in Hillsboro, an initiative organized by The Street Trust, is a pioneering effort to promote sustainable transportation and increase access to electric bikes for residents who may not have easy access or comfort with e-biking. Launched with the aim to support e-bike ownership, the program is aligned with the City of Hillsboro’s environmental sustainability goals. It seeks to enhance alternative transportation methods, improve air quality, and reduce carbon emissions. The program is distinctive in its approach to inclusivity, prioritizing applicants who are people of color, women, and those meeting specific income qualifications based on Oregon’s State Median Income.
Under the Ride2Own program, up to 25 eligible Hillsboro residents will receive a comprehensive package to kickstart their journey into e-biking. This package includes a free e-bike, essential biking gear, and a suite of support services such as bike tune-ups, repairs, and training sessions. Additionally, participants will have opportunities to attend community biking events and receive a free membership to The Street Trust.
