Solar-Powered Cargo Scooters
Otherlab's 'Lightfoot' is a Renewable Energy E-Scooter
Colin Smith — November 16, 2024The Lightfoot, developed by Otherlab, is a solar-powered cargo e-scooter designed to transform urban commuting. Featuring twin 120W solar panels on either side, the Lightfoot can extend its range by up to 18 miles per day through solar charging. The scooter is equipped with a 1.1 kWh battery and 750W motors, providing a range of up to 37 miles on a full charge and a top speed of 20 mph. The design, inspired by classic vehicles like the Vespa and Volkswagen bus, includes a lockable storage compartment for carrying groceries or work bags.
Otherlab's innovative approach aims to reduce reliance on traditional charging methods and promote sustainable transportation. The Lightfoot's solar panels continuously recharge the battery, making it a net-zero emissions vehicle. The scooter is designed to be easy to operate, with a twist-and-go throttle and no need for clutches or gears. With its durable construction and regenerative braking system, the Lightfoot offers a practical and eco-friendly solution for urban mobility.
