Atmospheric Water Harvesters
Alphabet Debuts New Device that Creates Drinking Water From Air
Grace Mahas — October 27, 2021Alphabet recently created a new low-cost device, dubbed the Atmospheric Water Harvester, that pulls clean drinking water from the air. The device pulls in outside air and uses heat to create condensation, producing clean drinking water drip by drip.
The prototype produced 150 milliliters of water per hour per square foot, with the final device able to produce five liters of water a day. The device is ideal for remote locations that require access to water since the Atmospheric Water Harvester is designed to work off-grid. The tool is powered by solar photovoltaic cells.
In an effort to make potable water more accessible, Alphabet made the new technology open-sourced "so anyone can use the intellectual property and keep moving the work forward."
