Salvaged Material-Made Saunas

The Ika Architekti Upcycled Sauna Uses Sustainable Materials
Kanesa D — March 17, 2025Czech design studio Ika Architekti has crafted a one-of-a-kind Upcycled Sauna in Brno using repurposed and salvaged materials. Resting on a foundation of reclaimed railway sleepers, the compact structure is wrapped in corrugated fiberglass panels, giving it a distinctive, rustic charm.
Appropriately named the Upcycled Sauna, this four-square-meter retreat finds its home beneath the shade of an apple tree in the garden of Tomáš Dvořák, co-founder of Ika Architekti. The project is committed to sustainability by creatively reusing materials while offering a cozy, nature-integrated escape for relaxation and rejuvenation.
Notably, the property uses salvaged wooden sleepers made from wooden pallets, sheep wool insulation, and spruce planks. There are also cement-bonded particle boards behind the stove and corrugated fiberglass panels on the inside of the sauna.
