Fusion Power Plant Developments

Type One Energy X TVA Team Up to Advance Fusion Power in Tennessee

Type One Energy x TVA have joined forces to develop a fusion power plant in Tennessee, marking a significant step toward commercializing sustainable energy. The Infinity Two project aims to deliver a 350 MWe stellarator fusion power plant by the mid-2030s, leveraging TVA’s infrastructure and expertise to accelerate clean energy development. By repurposing retired fossil fuel sites, the project reduces costs. It expedites the transition from coal and gas to fusion energy, reinforcing grid stability while supporting the Tennessee Valley’s energy demands.

This initiative builds on Project Infinity, a partnership between Type One Energy, TVA, and Oak Ridge National Laboratory. With a focus on site selection, environmental reviews, and licensing, the collaboration aims to establish a scalable model for fusion power. Additionally, Type One Energy works with TVA’s Power Service Shops to streamline manufacturing and enhance the fusion energy supply chain. Workforce development is also a priority, ensuring the region becomes a hub for fusion technology expertise.

As fusion energy moves closer to commercialization, this partnership represents a breakthrough in advancing carbon-free power. By combining cutting-edge fusion research with TVA’s experience, Infinity Two could serve as a model for future clean energy projects.
