Japan is focusing on both nuclear energy and renewable power to achieve a more sustainable future. The country's new energy policy aims to maximize the use of nuclear power, reversing a phaseout policy adopted after the 2011 Fukushima disaster. By 2040, the government expects nuclear power to account for 20% of Japan's energy supply, up from just 8.5% last year. This shift is supported by the Green Transformation (GX) 2040 Vision, which also promotes the development of next-generation reactors and the restart of reactors that meet post-Fukushima safety standards.

Renewable energy is also a critical component of Japan's energy strategy. The government plans to increase the share of renewables, such as wind and solar power, to 40-50% of electricity generation by 2040, up from 22.9% last year. The policy envisions significant investment in renewable technologies and infrastructure to support the decarbonization goals. Under these plans, Japan aims to achieve net-zero emissions of climate-warming gases by 2050 and reduce emissions by 73% by 2040 compared to 2013 levels. This dual approach of utilizing both nuclear and renewable energy sources underscores Japan's commitment to achieving a stable and sustainable energy future.
