Sustainability Strategy Frameworks

World Aquatics Reinforces It Commitment to Sustainability
Georgia Wray Norsten — March 29, 2025World Aquatics has introduced its Sustainability Strategy framework, reinforcing a global commitment to environmental stewardship across the aquatics community. Announced on World Water Day, the initiative aims to embed sustainable practices into all aspects of the organization’s operations, events, and community engagement -- marking a pivotal step toward reducing the sport’s environmental impact and promoting climate action.
Structured around three core pillars -- Organisation, Events, and Community -- the strategy aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and ESG standards. It outlines sustainable procurement, reduced travel emissions, and climate-conscious event management. Educational programs and localized impact initiatives will further support community awareness and participation in sustainability.
Ahead of its full rollout at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore 2025, the organization has already launched notable programs, including carbon footprint assessments and the Discover Water Programme, which teaches water safety while promoting clean water access. With this comprehensive framework, World Aquatics is positioning itself as a leader in using sport to champion global environmental and social progress.
