Arc’teryx Sets Ambitious Climate Targets and Sustainability Initiatives
Grace Mahas — April 23, 2024Arc’teryx, a Canadian company known for its high-performance technical apparel and gear, has announced ambitious new climate targets, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability. Based in the Coast Mountains, Arc’teryx is driven by a design philosophy that marries minimalism with functional durability. As part of its ongoing dedication to environmental stewardship, the company has introduced a set of science-based climate targets that include reaching Net Zero emissions by 2050 or sooner, and significantly reducing its operational and value chain emissions.
The company aims to reduce its total scope 1 and 2 emissions (operational emissions) by 90% from a 2022 baseline and cut scope 3 emissions (value chain emissions) by 42% from the same baseline. These targets, aligned with the Paris Agreement to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius, position Arc’teryx as a leader in the outdoor industry’s fight against climate change.
In addition to its emission reduction goals, Arc’teryx is also implementing key initiatives to bolster its sustainability efforts. These include transitioning to 100% preferred fibers, enhancing product durability and longevity, expanding the ReGEAR recommerce program, focusing on product care and repair to extend product life, and reducing the impact of product packaging by eliminating virgin plastic and paper by the end of 2025.
