Nike's Arctic Shipping Corporate Pledge Encourages Sustainability

Nike and the Ocean Conservancy will collaborate to create the Arctic Shipping Corporate Pledge, which will encourage companies to agree to not ship through the Arctic. The Arctic Shipping Corporate Pledge is necessary due to the fact that as the Arctic climate changes, it becomes easier and cheaper to ship materials through the region. However, if shipping through the Arctic is increased, it can have significant adverse climate effects.

A number of different companies have already agreed to join the Arctic Shipping Corporate Pledge. Organizations that have already formally agreed include H&M, Gap, Columbia, Kering and more. Climate change is an important cause to Nike, and the company has previously pledged to move towards being carbon neutral.
