Frozen Food Carbon Labels
Strong Roots Introduced Carbon Labeling in Partnership with CarbonCloud
Jana Pijak — January 3, 2025Irish plant-forward frozen food brand, Strong Roots, introduced carbon footprint labels across all its packaging in 2023. The move aims to empower eco-conscious consumers to make informed choices. Partnering with Swedish climate tech firm CarbonCloud, the brand leverages advanced software to measure greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions—including carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide—following each product's journey “from soil to shelf.”
This initiative not only sets an emissions baseline but also guides Strong Roots in identifying production areas for improvement. CEO Samuel Dennigan emphasizes that transparency through such labeling meets consumer demands for accountability in addressing the climate crisis.
As environmental concerns continue to influence purchasing behavior, particularly among younger generations, climate labels offer a clear understanding of a product's impact. Strong Roots joins brands like Quorn and Oatly in pioneering these efforts, reinforcing a long-term commitment to sustainability through plant-based offerings like Thai Green Veg Curry and Veggie Masala.
