Second-Hand Book Initiatives

The Re3read Book Reuse Scheme Encourages Community Sustainability

The re3read Book Reuse Scheme is launching on World Book Day, offering free second-hand books at re3 Recycling Centres. This initiative promotes sustainability by reducing waste and encouraging book reuse within the local community. Residents can pick up books from designated shelves at Longshot Lane in Bracknell and Island Road in Reading, ensuring that more books remain in circulation rather than being discarded.

Last year, residents donated 57 tonnes of books, many of which are now available for redistribution. Local schools, nurseries, libraries, and care homes can also apply for book bundles, helping them refresh their collections without additional costs. By extending the lifespan of books, the scheme supports education while lowering environmental impact, making literacy more accessible to all.

As part of its broader sustainability mission, re3 continues to expand reuse initiatives alongside its Paint Reuse Scheme and Reuse Pop-Up Shops. The re3read Book Reuse Scheme is another step toward reducing landfill waste and fostering a culture of circular economy practices.
