Ben & Jerry's 'Project Mootopia' will Reduce Methane from Cows
Colin Smith — May 10, 2022References: fastcompany & benandjerrys
Ben & Jerry's is working with several of its partnered cow farms on what it calls 'Project Mootopia.' Project Mootopia outlines the company's intentions to reduce the carbon footprint of its ice creams by targeting the dairy farms that it works with. This will be achieved by taking measures to reduce cow burps and other cow-related emissions that contribute a large portion of carbon emissions from farming.
Ben & Jerry's and its partners will reduce the emissions from each cow by feeding them alternative foods, such as seaweed and other digestive aids. On top of this, the farms will experiment with methane digestion technology which transforms emissions from cows into fertilizer and electricity that can be repurposed into usable resources.
